Thymus gobicus is a subshrub occurring in south-western Siberia and Mongolia. It belongs to the Lamiaceae family. Other Thymus species in Inner Mongolia, Thymus quinquecostatus var. asiaticus or Thymus serpyllum var. mongolicus, five-ribbed thyme and wild thyme respectively, are used for seasoning, particularly the aerial parts of the plant. The recorded Mongolian names of these other Thymus species are huajiao, huaju ebesu or huj ebes; heerin huajiao.
